At Villa Raffaella Assisted Living, we are blessed to witness many remarkable lives. However, few stories reflect faith, gratitude, and joy as beautifully as that of Edith Alessi — our cherished resident, reigning Miss Villa Raffaella 2025, and a woman who truly lives what she calls “A Wonderful Life.”
As Edith celebrates her 101st birthday, she gives heartfelt thanks to God for His many blessings. She often shares that God granted her good health, long life, and deep faith. Because of this outlook, Edith continues to inspire everyone around her.
Rooted in Faith, Family, and Heritage
Edith (Italia) was born on December 20, 1924, in her family’s home in Camden, New Jersey. She was the second oldest of five children born to Vito and Lena Meloni. Her parents were Italian immigrants who worked hard and lived their faith daily.
Because of them, Edith learned early to value God, family, and heritage. She also grew proud of her Italian roots and grateful to be born in America. These lessons shaped her entire life and continue to guide her today.
Education, Career, and Marriage
After graduating from Camden High School, Edith began working in the offices of the Campbell Soup Company. She enjoyed being productive and contributing to her community.
In 1951, Edith married Angelo Alessi. Together, they raised three daughters in a home filled with love, faith, and hospitality. Over time, their family grew to include six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom remain a great source of joy in Edith’s life.
A Life of Faith in Action
Throughout her life, Edith lived her faith actively. She attended daily Mass and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Stephen’s Parish. In addition, she participated in Bible studies, Catholic conferences, and retreats whenever possible.
Because of this deep commitment, prayer became a steady presence in her daily routine. Even now, Edith continues to draw strength and peace from her faith.
Hospitality, Baking, and Giving Back
Edith also expressed her love through hospitality. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. Moreover, she became known for her baking. She loved trying new recipes and sharing cakes and cookies for every occasion.
Beyond her home, Edith volunteered with The Cathedral Kitchen in Camden. There, she helped feed others and serve those in need. Giving back always brought her joy.
A Lifelong Love of Learning and Music
In addition to serving others, Edith remained a lifelong learner. She enjoys reading thoughtful books and watching Masterpiece Theatre on PBS. Likewise, she loves music.
Opera, Broadway classics, classical music, and songs from her generation have always filled her home. Music continues to uplift her spirit and bring comfort.
Travel and New Adventures
After retiring from Pennsauken Municipal Township, Edith also enjoyed traveling with friends. These trips allowed her to explore new places while creating lasting memories.
Life at Villa Raffaella
Today, Edith lives at Villa Raffaella Assisted Living, where she feels truly blessed. She often shares how grateful she is to live in a faith-filled community. Surrounded by caring nurses, staff, caregivers, and friends, she continues to thrive.
As Edith celebrates 101 years, we honor her life, her faith, and her joyful spirit. We wish her continued health, happiness, and God’s abundant blessings.
